If you’ve recently lost a tooth, our Grand Rapids dentists may suggest a dental bridge to repair your smile. To be a candidate, you must have healthy natural teeth or dental implants on both sides of the empty socket. A dental bridge is comprised of an artificial tooth secured by crowns on adjacent teeth. Like the name suggests, a dental bridge “bridges” the gap left by a missing tooth.

A dental bridge can:

  • Repair your smile after losing a tooth
  • Prevent further tooth loss
  • Maintain your face shape
  • Improve chewing
  • Improve speech

First Appointment

During your first appointment with us, our dentist will need to remove enamel from teeth on both sides of the empty socket. We do this to make room for the dental crowns to sit on top of your teeth. Next, our dentist will take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab where your tooth bridge will be made. In the meantime, we’ll place a temporary bridge to protect your smile.

Second Appointment

When you return to our office, your tooth bridge will be ready. Our dentist will remove the temporary bridge and replace it with the permanent one. We may wait several weeks to cement the tooth bridge so we can be sure of the fit. If this is the case, we’ll ask you to return to our office multiple times to check the dental bridge.
