Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) helps you feel calm during dental procedures. If you have dental anxiety, ask our dentists about conscious sedation with nitrous oxide.
Dental nitrous oxide is safe for people of all ages and wears off quickly. Unlike other types of sedation dentistry, nitrous oxide doesn’t put you to sleep. Instead, it helps you feel relaxed so you can get the dental care you need.
To maintain good oral health, we recommend seeing our dentist every 6 months for a teeth cleaning and dental exam. However, we understand that some patients may need conscious sedation to feel comfortable and safe in the dentist’s chair.
Our laughing gas dentists will be more than happy to explain what you can expect during the procedure.
Laughing gas doesn’t have any side effects. Unlike other types of sedation dentistry, you’ll be able to drive yourself home and continue your day. Laughing gas is also safe for patients of all ages, so you don’t have to worry about the anesthesia’s effect on your child.
Benefits of nitrous oxide:
- Feeling relaxed, yet aware and conscious
- Wears off quickly
- Can drive yourself home after appointment
- Safe for people of all ages
What to Expect
Before the procedure, we’ll place a mask over your nose that supplies nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen. After a few moments, you’ll start to feel more relaxed. If your dental anxiety stems from a fear of losing control, you don’t have to worry about that with nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide doesn’t put you to sleep, which means you’ll be fully aware of everything that is happening during your procedure.
